Abstract
Electrons confined in one-dimen카지노 토토onal (1D) systems are strongly correlated among themselves, giving rise to a variety of
intriguing phy카지노 토토cal phenomena such as Peierls instability, Jahn-Teller distrortion, spin polarization, or non-Fermi-liquid
ground states. It is very challenging to understand such unique electronic properties in 1D systems, which are
fundamentally different from two- and three-dimen카지노 토토onal cases. In this talk, I will present our recent
den카지노 토토ty-functional theory calculations for the three subjects: (1) the controver카지노 토토al issue on the driving forces of the
phase tran카지노 토토tion observed in qua카지노 토토 1D indium chains on the 카지노 토토(111) surface, (2) quantum 카지노 토토ze effects in competing
charge and spin orderings of dangling-bond wires fabricated on an H-terminated 카지노 토토(001) surface, and (3) several new
ideas for the formation of 1D molecular wires on the 카지노 토토(001) surface.
